Visiting the battlefields

Last week, at the nearby Manassas battlefields, 4th and 5th grade got to see an interactive map that helped them visualize the troop movements during the first battle at Bull Run.

They also visited the Stone House which was used as a hospital during the war and learned about the differences between medicine during the Civil War and today. Soldiers might have to wait days to receive treatment for their wounds! Students also learned about the civilians whose farms became battlegrounds during the Civil War, and how the battles at Manassas affected their lives.
