Governance
A ministry and extension of Shepherd Gate Church, Shepherd Christian School (SCS) was created as a unique entity (tax ID# 88 -1482890) that is managed by its own school governing board, separate from the church board of directors.
SCS Board Members
Doug Dronfield is a program manager for Jacobs Engineering where he specializes in environmental contamination evaluations and designs for soil and water cleanup. He is a licensed professional geologist with a BA in Environmental Science from the University of Virginia and a MS in Hydrology from the University of Arizona. Doug is an elder at Shepherd Gate Church and is involved in many of the ministries within the church. Doug and his wife have four grown kids and enjoy biking and hiking in their spare time.

Carol Borreson served with Wycliffe Bible Translators and trained with the Summer Institute of Linguistics as a Bible translator where she provided administrative support and worked on a language project in Africa. She also served as church secretary and bookkeeper at Shepherd Gate for more than 22 years which gave her the opportunity to minister to children both through Pioneer Clubs and Awana. Carol received her BA in Psychology from the University of Maryland and also graduated from Elim Bible Institute majoring in Bible and minoring in Missions. After recently retiring from bookkeeping and office administration, Carol is thrilled to be a part of what God is going to do through Shepherd Christian School.

Dan Duis has been the Senior Pastor of Shepherd Gate Church since its inception in 1986. He also helped to establish and run a K-8 Christian school in Vienna, Virginia many years ago when he first began working in ministry as a youth pastor. A native of Nebraska, Dan has a love for horses and farming. When he's not on the farm or at Shepherd Gate, Dan serves as a volunteer chaplain, desiring to Make Christ Known wherever he goes.

Jim Hadley is Founder and CEO of Tiber Solutions, LLC, a professional services company focused on delivering data analytics leadership and solutions to corporations and government agencies. In 2017 and 2019, Tiber Solutions was named one of the 50 great places to work in Washington, D.C. Hadley formed a partnership with Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College to annually sponsor and work with a team of graduate students. He served on the board and was Chairman of Ad Fontes Academy, a Christian school in Centreville, Virginia. He and his wife, Katrina, are blessed to have four children and live in Leesburg, Virginia.
Dr. Daniel Hockstra is founder and owner of Gentle Touch Chiropractic, LLC where he has been blessed to serve clients for almost two decades in Northern Virginia. He received his undergraduate degree from Grove City College in Molecular Biology and his doctor of chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic, West where he was awarded the Clinical Excellence Award and Palmer Student Fellowship Award for recognition of service and leadership. Danny serves as a Deacon at Shepherd Gate Church and enjoys painting, sculpting, home building projects, and time with his family.

Nanmarie Hockstra most recently worked with the Major Gifts Team at Prison Fellowship International before being led to help establish SCS. She received her BA from Grove City College in English and Spanish. Professionally, she has worked in direct marketing and non-profit fundraising and assisted her husband Danny Hockstra in the day-to-day operations of his chiropractic office. In the past, she has tutored and volunteered at her children’s schools in fundraising, development, and serving through leadership at PTA and board levels. She is a Colson Fellow (class of 2023!) and is pursuing her Master's in Christian School Administration from Regent University. Nanmarie most treasures her role as a mother of four children and is excited to see God work through Shepherd Christian School to equip students to live out their faith confidently.
